This
is a picture of the near finished
birch-sap shack. We worked on it off
and on during the summer of 2001.
We didn't know if we would get finished before winter set in, so two
local builders offered to help. The outside is almost complete and it's
a good thing because it is cold working at -40 F. We wouldn't have been
able to do any of this, if it weren't for Delta Building Supply, a local
building supplier. They have been an incredible support to us by donating
over one thousand dollars in lumber and supplies etc.
Because the shack is on skids, it is able to be moved. This is one of the possible locations it could be moved to. The small cluster of birch trees is where we are currently sampling sap.
You can see how close the water table is to the trees. It will be interesting to see how much the water drops this winter. We think this will supply us with gallons of sap this spring. Hopefully, the sap will have a high sugar content. Thank you for visiting our web-site.
