The probes for this upper
sample area were again installed at 0.5 inches below the surface. There is
a 25 feet difference in vertical elevation between the two locations. This
upper site is also deeper in the stand of birch trees.
Much of the data looks
similar, with the exception of temperature swings early in the data collection
season. The penetration of sunlight may account for much of the differences
